Known as one of the most famous Audi vehicles in history, the Audi Quattro was a road and rally car that was very well known in its time. The Quattro was equipped with the Audio Quattro all wheel drive system. The vehicle is often called the Ur-Quattro to avoid confusion between the name of the vehicle and the name of the all wheel drive system that Audi employs on most of its vehicles. The Audi Quattro was made better known because it was the car that was employed by one of the most well known female racers, Michele Mouton. The Audi Quattro has also been named one of the best sports cars of the 1980's and still holds a place as one of the most notable rally cars ever.

The Audi Quattro was first introduced to the European markets in 1980 and was the first car to feature the Quattro all wheel drive system. This was also the first time that Audi paired the Quattro all wheel drive system with a turbocharged engine, making the Quattro a vehicle full of firsts for Audi. A powerplant 2.1-liter single overhead cam 10-valve straight five engine powered the Quattro. The engine would produce 160 horsepower, but then was upgraded to produce 220 horsepower. The Quattro is considered one of the best rally cars in history and it was also the first rally car that would use an all wheel drive system in competition. This first generation was produced from 1980 until 1990 and was changed very little during its production.
