A full size luxury crossover sports utility vehicle, the Audi Q7 was designed by Audi to be sold starting in the 2007 model year. The Audi Q7 shares its platform with the Volkswagen Touareg as well as the Porsche Cayenne. Audi actually based the Q7 on the Pikes Peak Quattro concept car, though the Q7 is designed for on road use. The first production model of the Audi Q7 was introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show in early 2006.

Audi will offer a 4.2 liter V8 as well as a 3.6-liter, and a Diesel V6 engine to power the Audi Q7. Rumors suggest that Audi also plans to release a high performance Q7, though a formal statement or introduction of such a vehicle has yet to be seen. Other rumors suggest that Audi will team up with Maserati to produce a high performance SUV of one type or another, though these rumors have not been confirmed by either Audi or Maserati to date.

Audi expects the Q7 to do quite well as it will provide the space and the power that consumers are looking for some sports utility vehicles without guzzling the gas that most people associate with the larger vehicles. The Q7 will definite get the attention of consumers that are looking for these luxury crossover sports utility vehicles, as will a smaller version of the Q7 which is going to be named the Q5 and will be a car based SUV. Audi is constantly trying to find new ways to appeal to their current consumers, as well as those that haven't yet found the Audi name, and the Q7 will do just that.
