In the beginning the A6 was simply an updated version of the Audi 100. The first generation of the A6 starting in 1994 was not much different on the exterior or with the engines. In 1997 Audi made some changes offering several different engines in the A6 of these engines two of them were diesel and almost all of them came with Audi's Quattro four-wheel drive system. The second generation of the A6 spanned from 1997 until 2004 and this was the generation that brought the big engine changes. The A6 received quite a bit of attention over its 30 valve 2.4 and 2.8 V6 engines as well as the 2.5 V6 TDI. Audi also made the Triptronic automatic transmission available as an alternative to your five speed manual transmission. The third generation of the A6 began with the 2004 model and was larger than before and was generally more sophisticated. A multi media interface was one of the most notable technological advancements, which is a system that offers satellite navigations, climate control, and suspension settings control through a central screen interface. This generation also saw all new engines, as well as Quattro four wheel drive available in almost all models and standard in all of the more powerful models. The Audi A6 has received a lot of positive attention from both critics and consumers. In 2000 and 2001 the A6 was on Car and Drivers Ten Best list. In 2005 the A6 actually won the World Car of the Year award. With great sales and a general liking of this car, Audi will likely continue to sell this car until it just doesn't sell anymore!
